Maryland Casinos Generate $119.4 Million During December

DECEMBER 2020 CASINO REVENUE DATA

(Baltimore) – Maryland’s six casinos generated $119,356,448 in gaming revenue during December of 2020. The total represents a decrease of 19.9% (-$29,731,046) compared to the December 2019 total of $149,087,494. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MGM National Harbor, Live! Casino & Hotel and Horseshoe Casino were limited to 25% of their capacity during December 2020, while the state’s other three casinos were limited to 50% capacity.

Casino gaming contributions to the state in December 2020 totaled $49,791,515, a decrease of $10,820,925 (-17.9%) compared to the $60,612,440 contributed to the state in December 2019.

Contributions to the Education Trust Fund (ETF) in December 2020 were $36,207,140, a decrease of $9,251,933 (-20.4%) compared to the $45,459,073 in ETF contributions during December 2019. Casino gaming revenues also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.

As part of Maryland’s effort to halt the spread of COVID-19, the casinos were closed on March 16 and began reopening with capacity limitations on June 19. Casino operators worked with local and state public health officials to develop their reopening protocols. The casinos have implemented social distancing and sanitation procedures, including a requirement that all employees and patrons wear face coverings.

Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games: MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County; Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County; Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City; Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County; Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.

$12,748,249 in December 2020, a decrease of $5,989,879 (-32.0%) from December 2019

Hollywood Casino (502 slot machines, 16 table games)
$6,577,669 in December 2020, an increase of $512,240 (8.4 %) from December 2019

Ocean Downs Casino (601 slot machines, 18 table games)
$5,080,927 in December 2020, a decrease of $559,722 (-9.9%) from December 2019

Rocky Gap Casino (405 slot machines, 16 table games)
$3,545,206 in December 2020, a decrease of $690,392 (-16.3%) from December 2019
